Reflection Paragraph on Process
For a month and a half I have been working on this research and I think that through out this whole process I have learned a lot about my topic and have found many things that have helped me to learn the safeties of tattooing and the consequences of getting a tattoo. This research has shown a whole new experience to me about researching on a topic, before I started this blog I had no idea how to create a blog and publish the work into the weblog. After a while I got used to using the key board and now I'm more fluent when typing on the keyboard; this helped me in my research majorly because before I couldn't type as fast as I could now and its helping me because I can do more work faster and get it done soon then I usually would if I were typing this a year ago. My process in this research has been good so far but when I was starting this blog I had problems signing in to my page so for one whole class period I had to start my blog all over again which made me very upset because I had to start all of my work over again which me be off task then everyone else in my class. After that happened had too work double as hard to catch up with everyone in the class on my research, so that meant that I was working in class and I was working at home which became kind of annoying because my work was interrupting with my life outside of school. A few weeks past I was back on track and I was working on task with everyone else which meant that that all of that extra work I did helped so that was good. This research was a very new expirence for me and now its so fun and easy to me now like I said before if someone asked me to do this again I will and next time it will be even better then this one that I'm doing now.

Reflection Paragraph on Sources
Through out my research I have found many things that have helped me in my process to find the truth behind tattooing and its history and meaning, this process took me over a month to find and so far its helped me through my research. First, I would like to say that my main source of information was found on the Internet and that the website that has helped me find these websites would have to be Google.com because that is the main website to find information on a topic that you are researching or are interested to know about. Next, I can say that the information that I have taken from the Internet about tattooing and have used in my research has all been proven by archaeologists and historians around the world, there are no misproven facts or quotes that have been used in research, there are many websites that have information that is completely wrong but the website that has is been used by many people that has wrong information would most definatly have to be Wicapedia.com . Lastly, my research has a very different experience to me because to be honest I'm not really good with working a computer, so I'm pritty suprized to see that I can be doing this right now, and another thing that I would like to say is that this research has been very fun and educational to me and if I were to be assigned to do this again I would.
Works Cited
- "Even if you have quality pigments and use the recommended carriers to mix the ink, there are other, less obvious potential health hazards associated with tattoo inks: Alcohol makes skin more permeable. This means that when alcohol is used in the ink or to disinfect the skin's surface, it allows more chemicals to cross into the bloodstream than ordinarily would".
- "Samuel O'Reilly invented the electric tattooing machine in 1891. O'Reilly improved upon an earlier tattoo machine invented by Thomas Edison that did not succeed commercially. Tattoo machines work by using a hollow needle filled with permanent ink. An electric motor pushes the needle in and out of the skin at a rate of up to 3,000 punctures per minute. The tattoo needle inserts a small drop of ink about 1/8 of an inch below the surface of the skin each time".
- "Our word came from Polynesian languages such as Tahitian and Samoan and was introduced to English speakers by the explorer Capt. James Cook (who also gave us the word taboo). The earliest use of the verb tattoo in English is found in 1769 in his account of a voyage around the world from 1768 to 1771. Cook also used a noun in his writings of 1769 but treated it as a native word so he is not given credit for the first use of the noun in English (recorded in 1777".
- "Skin was the first canvas for art. Sticks and other pointy objects were the first paintbrushes. Tattooing was first a form of scarification. This involved wounding oneself and packing dirt or ashes into the scrape or cut to discolor it permanently. It is believed that prehistoric man cut holes in his skin, charred sticks in the fire, let them cool and then applied the black substance to the wound to create tribal markings. As tattooing involved pain, blood and fire, primitive man believed the process released sacred life forces. The letting of blood was also associated with a sacrifice to the Gods. The symbol or animal form of the tattoo was thought to bring one protection from attack from that very same animal. Tattoos were also used to bring one's soul in alignment with God's purpose, increase virility and fertility, ensure the preservation of the body after the death and delineate hierarchies and roles within tribes. For instance, a tribal chieftain would have a very different tattoo than the individual in the tribe who was thought to bring them all bad luck. As skin does not preserve that well there is very archeological evidence that prehistoric people engaged in tattooing, although a few Paleolithic artifacts that have been discovered seem to suggest that the art of tattooing is as old as mankind".
- "There are few art forms that have been around for as long as tattooing – in fact, some anthropologists claim that the history of tattoos may date back as long as 15,000 years! Certainly, we know that many of the ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, used tattooing techniques. There are mentions of tattooing in the Bible, indicating that it was practiced among the ancient peoples of the Middle East as well. However, the remarkable thing about the history of tattoos is not just the length of time that humans have practiced it; looking at the history of body tattooing, we cannot help but be struck by how widespread this tradition was. Apparently, decorating the body in this permanent way is an almost universal impulse spread over a lot of different cultures".

Reflection Paragraph on Findings
Some of the most important facts that I have found in my research were these:
- The Origins of tattooing was developed in Polynesia
- Samuel O'Reilly created the first mechanical tattoo gun
- You can die from having a tattoo because of the ink an artist is not safe
- People that have tattoos have a lower chance of getting a job then people that don't have tattoos
- The safest ink to use is also the most expensive
- Tattooing had meaning to people in the past then they do now
- The meaning of tattoos were more about religion then they were in popularity, in the past
- Tattoo designs have developed by a lot since they were created
- There are over a billion of different tattoo designs in America alone
- Early Egyptian Pharaohs had tattoos to show there leadership
- Tattoo companies like LA ink have over 500 people come to get tattoos in a single day
Finding Paragraph #3
Finding the information on my topic was kind of hard to find because there were so many sites that I have looked at and saw that they had incorrect information. To be honest I could only find about 7 or 8 websites that have the right information and that I have used in my research. These sites have all different types of topics in them, from What's the safest ink to use?, to How did the Polynesian tattoo artists create tattoos and why? I would tell you more about it but I would be here for days so I can say that there was a lot of information in these websites. I'm about to be done with my research and I can say that there were a lot of new things that I have learned about when I was researching for instances I thought that the origins of tattooing was in Africa but when I went on google and researched it I found out that the origins of tattooing was actually in Polynesia. That shock me because for a very long time I thought that African people made tattoos first because I watch a lot shows on the history channel and they had an episode on tattoos and they were talking about the origins of tattooing and many people said that it originated in Africa but I suppose that they are wrong.
Finding Paragraph #2
When I first started this research I thought that it was going to be a breeze, but when I actually started it turned out to be more difficult then I thought it would be, because there was detailed information that I was researching that was very hard to find. For instance one of the topics that I was trying research was "Who created the first mechanical tattoo gun", when I typed that in google.com there were at least 23 different pages on websites that information on tattoos. I had to go through almost all of them until I finally found the site, once I got on the cite I was astonished to find out that Thomas Edison was the first person to attempt to create a tattoo gun, he couldn't do it sadly. But an inventor by the name of Samuel O'Reilly found a way to create a tattoo gun in the late 1800's. For generation inventors have been creating new and improved tattoo guns I bet in the future there will be more ideas and more improvements on the tattoo gun. If you are researching on the history of tattooing or the history of tattoo guns then you should go to this site http://tattoos.lovetoknow.com/Tattoo_Guns

Finding Paragraph #1
I can honestly say that it wasn't difficult finding the information on my topic because all I had to do was find the information on my topic at http://www.google.com/ but after that everything was a breeze. But When I finally went to go look up all of the information, I was astonished to see all of the different topics about tattoos. The information was almost unlimited because there were so many "If, And , or Buts about this topics origins. To be honest to the fullest I really don't know the true origins of tattooing because there astronomers that are still trying to find out the biggest question of all, "Where was tattooing originated and who created the first tattoo?".

This information helps me in my research because it talks about the origins of tattooing in Egypt, Greece, and Romans Societies and how they used different techniques. In Egypt the main designs that egyptians would get would have to be of their god/ or gods. Mainly all of the tattoos that people got in ancient time had to do with their religion or of the icons in the bible.

These sentences help me in my research because they talk about the meanings or reasons why people got tattoos way back when there were no mechanical or electronical tattooing machines. The only way to get tattoo on the person's body was by using a very sharply pointed stick. I was kind of shocked to find out the true origins of tattooing on this website because there were so many websited that had faulse statements about tattooing that I couln't use. Graph/ Chart/ Map and Citation

This graph shows the amount of tattoos a person would get at a tattoo parlor.
The Y-axis has freguency( counts) which means the amount of people that
come in and get tattoos. The X-axis has " The Number of Tattoos", that means
the same thing because it shows the amount of tattoos.

This quate helps in my research because it shows how ink may look like its safe when it's not. It talks about the hazard of using alcohol in the tattoo ink; how it can enter your bloodstrem and damage your heart. There are so many things wrong about using tattoo ink because of all the risks that are given, but at the same time there are safe inks to use that will not cause any of these problems.

This picture is incorperated to my research because it shows the different
types of colors there in tattoos. There are thousand of different kinds of ink
but for now these are the colors I'm using in this photo caption because these
are the main colors used in a tattoo parlor. There are so so many named brands
of tattoo ink out in public, three of the main brands of ink that are mostly used
in tattoo parlors would have to be Skin Candy, Star Bruite Colors, and Intenze Ink.

I was astonished to find out that Thomas Edison tried to make the tattoo gun, sadly he failed to make the machine work, but this quote did give the name of the person who successfully created the tattoo gun and his name is Samuel O'Reilly.

This picture is connected to my research because it shows the main tool in tattooing
and that is the tattoo gun. The tattoo gun is used to make the tattooo because it has
ink that puts the color on the tattoo and how it does that is by injecting the ink in your
skin which makes the ink permanently stay on your body. The only way to get the tattoo off
your body would be by getting removed by a laser surgeon, the price to get it removed would
be about 4,000 to 5,000 dollars.

Captin James Cook had recorded everything from when he set sailed to when he found people with tattoos. All of the recordings that Cook had made in his discovery are not found but there are some that have been found and have so far been published in library and museums.

This picture is very important to my research because it shows all of the different designs to choose from when your in a tattoo parlor. It's also important because it shows how many different colors are incorperated in the tattoos shown in the picture. The picture is interepreted in my research because it shows how artistic you must be to qualify as a tattoo artist. This finally shows that all of these designs are different from religious to outrageous tattoo designs.

Websites that help me in my research
http://www.designboom.com/history/tattoo_history.html
This Website shows a brief histories behind tattoos and how they have developed over the years. The identity of the person who made the website is unknown. This website was like a timeline for tattoos, it helped me see that different cultures used tattoos long ago for many different reasons.
http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history-archaeology/tattoo.html
The website tells people about how archaeologist's discovered tattoos on old mummified remains that are about 2,000 years old. The person that made this website was Joann Fletcher. This website helps me in my research because it showed how people found tattoos on mummies.
https://www.msu.edu/~krcmari1/individual/history.html
This website gives you the origin of tattoos and it shows you some great examples of people that have been preserved or mummified and how they have tattoos on them even though they are 2,000 to 3,000 years old.
The person that made this website is Katherine L. Krcmarik. The website helps me because it gave me great examples of people that died 100's of years ago, that have been preserved and still have their tattoos.
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art11.asp
This site shows how tattoos were incorperated in society in ancient life. The person that created this website was Rae Schwarz. This site helps me find out how tattoos were used in society to identify bands of family, family crests, or tribal tattoos.

What I Want to Know About My Topic
There are so many question that I have about tattoos that need to be answered, but I have chosen to limit my research to only a few topics.
- What kind of ink do tattoo artists use?
- What is the best, most safest tattoo gun to own?
- What did tattoo artists in the past use to make tattoos?
- What were the first reasons for getting a tattoo?
- Why do people get tattoos today in society?
- Why do people look down on people that have a lot of tattoos?
- Why do people with tattoos have a lower chance of getting a job than people that dont have tattoos?
- Why do people judge others with Tattoos?
- Who created or designed the first tattoo?
- What's the best place to get a tattoo?
- Do artists give their customers vasoline after putting the tattoo on them?
- Is vasoline the best thing to use when healing a tattoo?
- Did artists in the past give any medication to their costumers after they were finish with their tattoo?
- How have tattoos developed over the years?
- What did artists use before ink was discovered?

What I already know
Tattoos now a days are mainly based on popularity and attention, but in the past people got tattoos for different reasons like scaring dangerous animals away, camouflage, or to worship a god. The ink that tattoo artists would use in the past was tar mixed crushed berries. The ink that tattoo artists use now is highly safe but you have to put on lubirderm so it can heal the wound. The way artist did tattoos in the past left the man or woman with scars or very bad infections that could probable cause them to die. The artist today have many different designs that they can put on someone, but in the past they had very limited designs. Tattoos have been an important part of society sence they were first created. Some reasons to have them are better then others but all I know for now is that their everywhere and they'll be around for a very long time.

The Story Behind My Topic
The reason why I chose my topic was because all of my family members have tattoo's besides me and I wanted to learn all about tattoo's before I get one myself. I also wanted to do this topic because in the future I want to be a tattoo artist. When I start this research I wont just do it to get a grade, I'll also do it to learn and progress from this research. Hopefully by the end of this I-Search I'll learn all about tattoo's and will be able to use this information in the future. Another reason why I chose to do this topic is because of my dad and how he loves his tattoos. My father has his a fair share of tattoos, but he might have to lose most of them because of the nerve damage he has in his left arm called Atrophy. Atrophy is a nerve damage that make which ever body part that's injures to become numb, this also deteriorates the muscle fiber in his Bisep, which means that his arm's getting weaker than getting stronger. If the doctor cant fix his arm then they'll have to amputate his arm. If this happens then I already told my father that I'll get all the tattoos that he had on his left arm on my right arm as a tribute to him.
